What have I been doing? looking at local politics
The Maryland Gazette arrived today— like it always does [Wednesdays & Saturdays]. Every now and again I will read through it. Like most, I get my news via the Internet or news broadcasts.
Today, I went through the help wanted section. For some reason– I always look for local lawyers that are looking for PT help. Why? Not sure. I really need a big firm in Washington. Anyway– today I noticed an ad from a law firm with this email address: annaoplislobby@… So I searched Google for “annapolislobby” to find out who owned the term. Several listings came up– including a listing for mdlobbyistdotcom.
One of the firm’s lawyers claims to have helped repeal the computer services tax which of course is of interest to me. The other thing I noticed was the fundraiser page for the mdlobby site.
Robert Erlich– did not know he was running for anything
Jolene Ivey— [she caught my attention because she said she was a mocha momma. I used to read a blog called mocha momma– I looked at her online information for awhile. Not sure why… maybe because I see her husband on tv and always think he reminds me of someone but not sure who. keep thinking college classmate], and a bunch of others.
Why did this interest me? I was looking at the ticket prices to attend some of these fundraisers and was quite frankly surprised.
I have never thought about state politics. At the federal level I basically think there is a think tank running things and not congress. It is sort of like my idea of Rock Hudson. I used to love watching his old movies. Especially the romantic ones. I am an AMC fan from way back. When he told me he was gay– I decided that I did not want to see him in romantic movies any longer.
When congress told me they were idiots– I refused to watch any movie that suggests congress should be taken seriously. Charlie Wilson’s war [i passed], any movie synopsis that suggests it talks to congress [i pass]. Is that why I did not finish “Lions for Lambs”– partly. But the other reason– the events look too current and I do not want to ask why in that movie.
So what does this have to do with local Maryland Fundraisers? Well I am not sure if there is a think tank trying to run maryland politics. There are a lot of fundraisers. Looks like big business. Any other business being done in the state?
